Highlighted Publications

A peer-reviewed trilingual journal, Siksacakr (‘the Wheel of Knowledge’) is the first international academic bulletin focusing on Khmer Studies in Khmer, English and French.

Siksacakr is aimed primarily at providing Cambodian scholars with an indispensable link to international scholarship on Khmer and Southeast Asian topics. Its purpose is to inform the Cambodian and international academic community of new trends in Khmer studies, projects and programs taking place in Cambodia and overseas involving the Center and its consortium.

Siksacakr No: 8-9 Special issue on Buddhism

The original aim of this special edited volume was to publicize research and writings by both more senior and emerging scholars in and outside Cambodia, that will shed new light on Cambodian Buddhism.” Compared to Sri Lanka, Burma and Thailand, Cambodia has been neglected as a site of Buddhist scholarship, with the notable exception of the work of François Bizot and Olivier de Bernon, and forays by other major scholars of Cambodia to whom we return later in this introduction. As our authors demonstrate, however, Buddhism in Cambodia is certainly as complex a historical and cultural field and merits as much attention as does the past and present practice of Buddhism in other countries in Theravüda South and Southeast Asia. However, our authors also show, through a variety of disciplinary approaches, that for all its idiosyncracies and unique textual legacies, Buddhism in Cambodia is resistant to insulation as a precise geopolitical, area-studies category.
